How Adolescents Cope with Bullying at School: Exploring Differences Between Pure Victim and Bully-Victim Roles

The aim of the present study was to investigate use specific coping strategies by bullied adolescents, taking account distinction between pure victims and bully-victims, as well gender-specific patterns. Participants were 967 adolescents aged 11–16 years, who responded self-report questionnaires on school bullying victimization, cognitive coping, situational coping. Adolescents in victim, bully-victim, noninvolved groups did not differ their approach However, bully-victims used more avoidance than adolescents. Compared with latter, reported greater such internalizing self-blame, while female also rumination. Both male characterized higher blaming others self-blame strategies, compared group. In addition, rumination, catastrophizing, distancing, externalizing scores for either participants or bullies. Identifying these differing may be useful developing effective counselling bullying.
